WASH & CARE FOR YOUR TURKISH TOWEL
Your Turkish towel, or peshtemal towel, should last you through years of washes and adventures with good care. Turkish cotton has a longer fiber making it quite durable when turned into thread and is less likely to pill or break. They will also get softer and more absorbent as you wash them, so don't be afraid to use them daily! Please note that your Turkish towel comes unwashed and will shrink a few inches after you wash it.
1. BEFORE YOUR FIRST WASH
Most of our Turkish Towels are pre-washed for extra softness. If yours is not, let it soak in cold water for about 12 hours before you wash it for the first time. We suggest throwing it in your tub to soak overnight. This allows the cotton fibers to bloom and expand, ensuring maximum absorbency and softness. Wring the towel and let it hang dry. You'll only need to do this when you first get your towel, there is no need to repeat the process. It also doesn't hurt to give a tug on the knots of each fringe piece to ensure they're nice and snug so they won't unravel when you wash.
2. HOW TO WASH YOUR TOWEL
We recommend you wash your Turkish towel in cold or medium heat water, on a gentle cycle, with similar colors. Don't use bleach or fabric softener. Fabric softener will actually make your towel less absorbent! To remove excess detergent, add a cup of white vinegar to the wash once a month or so. One of the perks of Turkish towels is how quick-drying they are. That said, we recommend hang drying them to help preserve the towel. If you wish to machine dry your towel, do so on low to medium heat. Use a warm iron to smooth out any unwanted wrinkles.
3. CARING FOR YOUR TOWEL
In the event that your towel gets caught on something and a thread gets pulled a bit out, don't fret! You can simply cut off the piece of thread that is popping out. As your towel is woven, cutting this single piece won't cause it to unravel. After a wash, you may also find that a piece of fringe has come undone. Again, this is an easy fix! Simply separate the threads into two equal sections. Twist each section in a clockwise motion. Then twist both sections together in a counter-clockwise motion. Tie the knot off at the end and you're good to go!
